What are Rome/Medieval like multiplayer? Presumably, much like the skirmish modes, only with better AI.
I found the Shogun/Medieval/Rome campaigns all hugely enjoyable, but also hugely easy (install game, set difficulty to impossible, play aggressively with obsessive micromanagement, complete game first go). Shogun I recall being really easy, so long as you ignored the warning not to risk your daimyo (I've heard about the mass spy strategy, but I'd conquered 2/3 of Japan with the starting troops+some bribed neutrals). Medieval would have made Machiavelli weep (an ever expanding wall of mercenaries seemed to allow an attack on almost every adjacent province every turn - only the sieges slowed it down). Rome 1.0 allowed you to bilk the senate and the other Roman families for money to attack the people you were already going to attack with (screwing the optimal amount of money out of them is an art form in and of itself) - always be sure to leave an experienced diplomat standing outside of Roman to buy the Senate's (super upgraded) army when it wanders out of Rome) - 11-12 turns to crush the Roman Republic and become Imperator, a few more to conquer 50 provinces. More recent versions of Rome stamped down on that a bit (Senate army no longer quite so easily bribed, Roman families harder to bilk) - now it takes 16 turns.
Pleasing to the obsessive-compulsive within, but it does mean I never got to play with anything bar the starting troops, hired mercenaries and anything anyone else had upgraded to.

| I find the multiplayer wholly more rewarding as no matter what they do with the battle AI it always seems to make stupid decisions. When playing against humans you get realistic tactical mistakes. I didn't see anyone on the main server a couple of weeks back when I suggested a match up. If I get some interest I'll try again.

| Medieval 1 isn't... the tactics are formulaic. I can show you how to win any player vs player battle in a matter of minutes based on troop choice, and as for the computer AI, its feeble. Medieval 2, well not many people a) have it or b) have the spec pc to run it properly. My new PC turns up next week and I won't be playing it till after it does, because I want a great experience. Core 2 Duo all the way baby...lol

I can run the demo on medium specs without trouble. I guess I might reinstall Rome son though, getting bored of Medieval again.
Oh, and, bastard!

After doing a bit of research into a Multiplayer Campaign Mod for Rome (There isn't one.) I decided that perhaps we could steal an idea or two from certain people who use websites and forums for the campaign and the actual program for the battles. Though this does require a bit of work and I'm not sure exactly how we'd do it.
I believe there would have to be a GM to keep tabs on every player's whereabouts, taking screenshots of their factions armies, territory, view and resources. In a roleplaying sense the player's would essentially play as their faction's diplomats as well, using PM's as a medium to achieve this.
Gah, this is hard to figure out. Surely someone can understand what I'm saying and how to improve on it?

| II looked into this a year or two ago, someone did write a script for dropping out the game turn (for a second player) but the implementation was quite clunky and I don't think it worked online. Did you look on "The Org" or the Total War Center?

| Total war in all its formats has always been far too easy in vanila form. I've played just about everything since day 1 of Shogun and loved it too, but 95% of the enjoyment has come when using modified versions of the game. Shogun & Medival its been so long I cant rember the good mods. Rome Total War, Its got to be Rome Total Realism or Europa Barboreium (SP?) Medival 2, there are alot of good mods in progress at the moment.
