"The dog was breathing funny overnight" is NOT a good enough reason in my book, particularly when you regularly leave it with a friend anyway. "The Dog was run over and we are rushing it to the vet" is, however. "The dog died last night" on the other hand, is also not good; there's nothing you can do for mutley any more, dig a hole and move on !!

You're taking the piss, right? If anything happened to my dog and I was due at an event, the dog would take precedence. No question.

Ahem. Real Life is more important than Roleplay.

Sorry to be contravertial, but it's true. If there is an event with large, genuine OOC significance then it will (and I would argue should) almost always win over a LRP event. End of story, tbh.

Totally agreed. LRP is a fucking hobby at the end of the day, not a way of life. If you feel your dog is more important than your own enjoyment, that's your choice and so be it. Or conversly if you want to miss your mates wedding to go to an LRP event, that's your choice too.
People should be intelligent enough to decide what level of priority they put on certain aspects of their lives, and then choose how they want to act.

As for organisers moving events around the players OOC commitments, I say "hell no!" once an event and set, and ready to go you should run it as you want, and don't worry about certain players having to miss bits of it.

This is of course, seperate to organising an event in the first place where checking if people are actually going to turn up is a good idea!

Anyone asking for a RL religious service at a LRP is a prick.

Leave site find a church you sad git. What? should people perhaps hire in a priest for every denomination who might attend on the off-chance? . In fact i'm anti-religious can we have a seperate area where I can simultaneously denounce the lies told in the Christian service?

Feck it ists barely worth even discussing. How old was the person who came up with that plan... give me their name so I can put in the list of people to be shot if they try and turn up to an event im involved in running.

Flannel, get a grip mate and stop being an arse. I imagine they wouldn't turn up to one of your events now you've said something like that.

Remember we're talking about people who have a committment to something they feel very stongly about, their faith. And people weren't demanding anything like what you are suggesting, a bunch of committed Christians (the majority who aren't actually wankers, like in lrp the wankers are the loudest ones) were discussing how to 'do Easter' while still attend the event. So have a bit of respect for people who were trying to satisfy two different commitments while causing the least problems for everyone else.

Anyway yes real life comes first, if I've been invited to a wedding of as dear friend or if a good mate needed my help to say move house that weekend they'd come first if I couldn't work out a compromise.

Well, LRP is a real life social/relaxation commitment in itself, surely? So it's just one you prioritise.

The only important thing is to let the organisers (and fellow players where apropriate) know in advance. If you then need to go off to work one morning, go to a church, eat only vegetarian food, or whatever, it can be managed without spoiling the efforts or enjoyment of others.

I have a personal preference for people to keep things like strong religious, political, racial, or cultural views discreet when in a large social environment to avoid offense. At the end of the day though, if what you are doing doesn't interfere with the organiser's vision for their event then it's fair enough.

I guess it goes without saying that it's a bit foolish to play "Boris the Meat Eater" or "Julie who Always Does Ritual Magic Sunday Mornings" if you're vegitarian or want to go to a Christian church service...

I played meat-eating characters for several years at LRP events while still a vegetarian outside that context; I didn't see it as particularly different from a non-smoking actor playing a smoker... but then, I accept that I may be a bit peculiar, and that eating meat at LRP events was something of a "taster" for giving up vegetables entirely.

"Boris the Meat Eater"

Is it wrong that I saw that and thought "what a cool character concept"?
