Well being a continental larper (Belgium), who went to Maelstrom in the UK, Dragonbane in Sweden, Conquest of Mythodea in Germany and far too many larps in Belgium I can say that I know there are a number of differences in gamestyle. But I think it's like someone said: if you get what you expect then you're happy with the larp you're playing in.
In Belgium we have time-stop moments (where we stop the game to note damage on sheet). I have not seen that in any other larp I played. => in my own larp I went for a game without time-stop and it works and even increases the quality of the game (before I went to the UK and Sweden I couldn't live without a Time-stop, now I hate Time-stops).
Prices of game-area's are expensive in Belgium (around 2000 euro for a weekend, and that's for only 100 participants). The game-fee (for Oneiros games (organisation I'm in)) also include food (6 hot meals, prepared by organisation) and all the drinks (yes, beer is included in game fee), our games cost an NPC 60 euro and a PC 105 euro
I actually believe that organisers should try (if money allows it) to play more in foreign larps, just to see how people do it there, cause each country has their own view on larp, and if one could take the 'best' pieces of each of those views, one could (theoretically) create the best larp ever
And that is also what I think the nordic larpers have in mind with Knudepunkt: come together to talk about what makes your larp so good and share knowledge and idea's, etc.
I've learned alot by talking with Swedes, Germans, Dutch, French, UK, ... and try to help it improve my larp.

Hope to see many British larpers at Knutepunkt in Denmark. Not only is it usualy a good conferance where one gets heaps of inspiration, but it's also a good party.
Best

| Regarding Jerm's comment of "I've never seen time stops outside of Belgium" - well, when I started LARP in the mid 1990s, it was in a system where we did linear adventures and a ref followed us with a clipboard full of character sheets (also called the "battleboard") and after a fight there would be a moment where he noted down damage on our character sheets. This used to be popular in Britain, but after people saw games without it working well, people preferred to do without stopping to note damage. Like Jerm, far more people exposed to games of both sorts preferred having the game flow rather than stopping to have accurate notation of damage. Regarding captain B - I overheard a conversation at this year's gathering. An English trader was talking to the German trader running Schatzkammar (I think that's how it's spelt - German for treasury). The German said that most German LRP traders have taken to mostly stocking imported Indian kit, and mass produced armour from eastern europe, with very little original kit. The German said that his stall and the other German stall at the Gathering were the two traders doing the most original kit. He admired the Gathering for having so many different varieties of things on sale, and the many different crafts shown by traders, and how people sold to a variety of price ranges. The English trader replied by saying how he couldn't believe how low a price Schatzkammar was selling some of its goods for. Now, this was one conversation between two traders of different nationalities and so may not be as representative as I think it is. However, from my experience LRP shopping you do seem to get a fine range of choice from UK traders, but some of the european sites do offer tremendous value for money. (Hey, most of my metal armour is from German traders or that imported Indian chain mail. My fake armour is Norton Armouries' finest). Anyway, I'm glad the organisers of knudepunkt are advertising here. It's a shame the old pagga convention got cancelled, the UK could really do with a good LRP convention. The other thing I'd really like is an event offering something a little like what summerfest did originally - a festival of several different LRP styles, allowing people to play short games of several types so as to get an idea of what different games were like, the merits of various rules, etc.
No, you probably don't remember my character from the events I've been to.

Sugarpuff Sandwich (11/27/2006) Its 4 quid a pint!!! Could you hold the next one in a country with cheap beer, please?
It's more expensive in the other Nordic countries... (sorry). The ad hock traditional Finish bar is cheaper (don't know if the Fins are bringing the Humve to hoste it in, though). If it's the price of the drinks that is decisive, you could ask the organizers if you can bring a bit of your own (depends on the county and the local alcohol regulations).
Knutepunkt varies from country to country (it is pased between the Nordic* countries), there are certain national characteristics to each event. The Danes usualy hold very good ones; well organized, good programs, relaxed athmosphere (it's Denmark after all!), good KP book and cheap drinks (compared to Norway, where I'm from). People are inclusive and interested in larp in other countries and you get to "nerd" about important things like storyline, plotstructures, gender and larp etc, as well as participate in the helicopter workshop (men only, involving champagne and a sauna. I don't know more since I'm a girl), the banquet, minilarps, swapping anecdotes and in general having a good time. English is the lingua Franca. Oh, and if you havn't been to Copenhagen, it' worth a visit.
Ragnhild
* Just as a bit of factual information: The Nordic countries are Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. The Scandinavian countries are only Norway, Sweden and Denmark, -not- Finland, as some seem to think (It's a common mistake, though). We tend to use Nordic ourselves, since it's unfair to leave out the 4 million Fins.

Nath (11/27/2006)
>they even have high street LRP shops in some towns! So do we. The local games store here stocks larp weapons. Yes, but their shops sell mostly LRP stuff, some of the bigger companies have several shops. I'm not talking about the odd Edritch Batlith hanging above the counter, but shelves upon shelves stacked with all your adventuring needs - including booze in some cases. Their latex weapons seem to be produced on an industrial level - that's why they're so cheap. Furthermore the quality of the kit is hard to beat - good clean lines, very robustly made. I've seen the sort of stuff we produce over here and I've seen the sort of stuff and the qantities they produce over there and I stand by what I've said: there's more of it, it's better and its cheaper than what we make. As to the events over there, I am yet to experience one first hand but what I have seen has made me want to. It is my opinion that there is a lot of excitement over in Europe about LRP in general at the moment and I mean to go and find out if I'm right And best of all our German cousins seem to love a bloody good scrap. Huzzah! I'm definately going and I'm going mob handed - don't try to stop me.
