These soldiers had just been attacked, I feel a great deal of sympathy for somebody who's just seen one of their mates killed and (at least) one other wounded. I can see how, in that situation, one's thinking may not be exactly calm.


It is the very definition of a soldier that they think clearly (if not entirely calmly) in such situations. To say it happened because a soldier got shot is an excuse not an explanation.

Edited to add: how do you get the bloody quote thingy to work properly on these boards?

From my reading of the news article, it was quite a bit more extreme than one person being shot ... though, frankly, that in itself would probably tip me over the edge into homicidal rage. Again, I have at no point suggested that what is alleged to have happened is morally defensible; all I am saying is that I have sympathy for the positions of the soldiers. Might be worth nipping back to the beginning of the thread and reading my original response and also the news report I quote later on in the thread.

I don't believe that it's possible to nest quotes inside each other ... which seems to be where you and several others have gone wrong.
