I know this was discussed on pagga, but did we get anywhere?

I believe one (good) suggestion was something called Flexithane (or flexothane) which was a satin finsih varnish affair for boats. Did anyone work out what it was? or a way to get hold of any?

as a PS i've just finished Isoflexing with some old isoflex that had gone slightly off and slightly drier. It was a total nightmare. make sure you lids are sealed properly people!!

I was a bit worried about the next time I needed to use my already opened can of isoflex. But as irony would have it, I had to polish the tin off on my roof of all places, fancy having to use a product for it's actual purpose

And thus got to buy a shiny new tin for the next weapons I make.

Don't use Flexithane, unless it has changed in the past decade of so. I experimented with it prior to using isoflex and it cracks really badly when used on LRP weapons. IIRC I bought it directly off an industrial supplier.....

Quick tip for Iso flex-don't open the tin, punch two holes in the lid and pour out enough for the job, then push some plasticene into the holes. I've got a tin that is 9 months old on the go at the moment.(just watch it'll have gone off now).
I dont think Graham puts anything on his weapons-just coloured latex.

Cheers for the tip!

And i think he does coat them in something, or use a different latex mix as his weapons don't (in my experience) seem to have the problems that non-coated latex has ie. fading in colour, taking in water etc.

Graham does use isoflex on some of his stuff. I've asked him in the past on how he got them so smooth and his reply was "Trade secret"

How about this stuff though Liquitex Matte Varnish? A permanent satin sheen varnish that dries clear non-yellowing and flexible.

What an astonishing rip-off that UK distributor is though -- more than twice the US retail price of the stuff.

Might have to see if I can get my pal who's moving back to the UK from the US this autumn to bring me a can or two on his shipment of stuff....
