Ye gods, Suzy, you have the worst imaginable luck at Hyborian Tales events. I'm astonished you still like us, after all that....

I am in the camp of hill-road haters, especially when dragging up the crew van. However I would like to point out that it is not really valid to say there are plenty of other sites in more convenient locations. It is increasingly hard to find and get a booking slot at scout sites, without a certain amount of luck, especially when you run a smaller event. Lees Wood a point in case, where a really convenient southern site has now decided to stop taking lrpers(I still don't know why exactly) and I have repeatedly been unable to get a booking even during winter or autumn periods, leaving us to repeat-use sites we visited only one or two events before. Not great for suspension of disbelief.
My opinion is any site making an effort to welcome larpers should encouraged and the only way the little problems like the track up to Borwick are going to be smoothed out are by booking of the site.

I would love to see a nice road up, or at least gravel filling of the worst stretch, but I imagine Paul will require the money thing for that.

I think the Bowick is a site that, personal asthetic issues apart, can only improve the more it is used, which is frankly the opposite of what I see at some scout sites.

Yeah, agreed. Paul has said that money from booking the site will be ploughed back into the site, and he seems to have been as good as his word so far -- the improvements over the past year or so have been seriously impressive. I reckon enough people have complained about the track that he'll pay some attention to improving it soon, but as you say he needs bookings to do that.

The Roundhouse is finished! Nice. Hopefully my tent (currently "drying" in the garden, during a series of continual rainstorms) will be dry enough by next weekend that I won't need it....

I dont think anyone *likes* that slope, but that will be an expensive job. I personally dont find it any worse than the access to some other sites, for example Shining Cliff is dreadful.

Rumour has it there is now a shower in the main barn, and a cooking area. I shall report back after this weekend.

There is indeed a shower, however it isnt very reliable, and using it lowers the water pressure throughout the barn, meaning the loo wont flush if someone is using the shower. So not exactly ideal. There is still only one toilet in the barn.

There is now a little kitchenette, which is very useful.

Apparently the next job is to properly sort out the electrics. Again, this takes money.

Another problem is that the barn is still being used for storage in between events, meaning that it has to be cleared before each one. This has been passed back to Paul as an issue.

I didnt get the chance to find out who it was that left the flat in such a mess that hiring it now costs extra.

A friend suggested Borwick as a good site for an event. Can anyone offer advice on it? Has much changed since this thread was last posted on? What kind of price does it hire for? How do I get in touch with the guy who runs it?
