25 people were injured chasing cheeses down a 1:2 gradient slope, in an annual competition to catch them.

Makes you think if they actually possesed the obscure skill "Cheese chasing" that none of this would have happened....

Apparently, the guy that got knocked unconscious this year got stretchered off last year.  I guess he took the "slow learner" disadvantage...

In the village where this takes place (Brockworth) Young Men aren't allowed to court Young Ladies unless they've taken part in the annual "Drink 20L of White Lightning and chase a Cheese down a cliff" festival, or at least that's how it felt when I was  Youth Worker there.

Ahhh... a forward thinking if Darwinian method.   Survival of those who are athletic and have very, very strong livers.  I suppose poetry just doesn't cut it any more.
