Hi all -I know I have another event idea running, but was just cleaning the kitchen and had a brainwave.
Who here remembers the GW 40K based game Necromunda. I was thinking that mayhap it could be converted into a lrp event/series.
It would be easy enough to do character progression etc as you could "borrow" the old rule system, and simply apply it to yourself. I think if roleplayed properly, it could make for a great series. You could have all the combat going on, and also trading etc to break the day up, things like the scavenging for scrap to earn credits could be easily dealt with by items hidden by crew.
The main problem I can forsee is the setting - obviously we don't have an underhive to run around in. But it could be that these gangs are actually out in the wastelands beyond the hive - or to save legallity with GW, not use any actual 40K reference but simply use the basic idea and generic sci-fi settings/weapons etc.
well there you go - as usual ideas on a post card - or a forum

Re:  'Hive world' settings:  We're looking at a couple of potential locations for a hive-world based game.  One very promising one is an old shopping mall in Reading which has been converted to an airsoft place.  Unfortunately these guys don't seem to answer their email.  We're working on it.

Re:  GW Legal restrictions.  It's perfectly doable.  Just read all their legal requirements and follow them to the letter (main gist of it:  Don't gank any copywrited images and don't make any profit out of it).  GW seem happy enough with what we (Death Unto Darkness) have been doing, anyway.  We wrote to them before we started.

Thanks for that - unfortunately Reading is a bit too far - I'm West Midlands based.
As for the legal stuff - do you know if all the legal spam is online?
Cheers

It's actually extremely vague on 'live role play' (which is mentioned, but not defined in any way).  Which is why we wrote to them to see if there would be any problems with what we were planning for Death Unto Darkness.  There weren't.  The absolute key issue is to make sure it is non-profit.  And be careful with any websites you make - don't use any GW images and make sure you slap the legal disclaimer somewhere obvious.  Have a look at ours if you need the disclaimer.

Not seen by myself, but I know of several groups who have run events here -> http://www.secretnuclearbunker.com/

If essex isn't too far, I imagine a disused nuclear bunker might be ideal for a Hive world game (although the shopping mall sounds awesome).

I live in Reading currently, and I've never heard of this place until you mentioned it. I may pop into town in a few days and have a gander...

I'd be very interested if/when you get a reply

I've been considering combat mechanics, and the best thing I can think of is nerf weapons - besides being pretty safe, they're quite ideal for painting/modding to look the part. Also they throw in the ammo limiting factor quite nicely.
The different models suit the range of weapons in the 40k universe - I've seen everything from belt fed guns (heavy stubber?) to a double barrelled shotgun.
Obviously people will want to get their hands on great weapons, but there will be a gear "purchasing" scheme.

Your thought processes seem to be following ours exactly. Which is why we are using nerf weapons.

If you're interested you could come and crew for us or something? See what we're doing and draw some inspiration?

Yeah - it might be a good idea. Although you are quite far away, and I'm about to start a new work assignment near Wolverhampton soon. Let me know when you've got events on, and I'll see what I'm doing.
Thanks Will
