Yes, have to agree, Merino is the best fabric I've come across, I bought myself a pair of Merino cycling tights and a long sleeved Merino cycling top about a decade ago, I still have them, the get dragged out for every chilly bike ride I go on (living in Scotland that's about 10 months of the year...) have got heavy use as my ski and base layer for larping, and the top even get worn at music festival as it's so good a regulating heating, and they're still in decent condition.

It is probably about twice as expensive as the man made alternative, but given performance, and a it's continuing longevity it's an investment I've never regretted

That, or failing anything else, grab one of your LARP mates who dresses up like a woman (Oh the joys of transvestisicism in LARP) who pretends to be a Viking'esk / conan the barbarian like woman, and, promptly in front of your RL Mates / Subjects of your Kingdom, role play sexing the "woman" leaving them not only rather perplexed, but wishing they never slept in the Kings tent (faction leader) EVER.

As an upside, less people are interested in my IC tent now, which makes not only for a clean tent, but un-forgetfull memories which the poor souls will never forget.

I apologise to those of a more vanilla or normal disposition, who may also suffer mental agonies conjuring images of such.

Of course, preferance would have been for a rather ravishing maiden, but, those seem to be few and far between in my experiances of LARP

Onto a more practical tip. Despite my previous comments, don't buy cheap Matalan thermals. Although they work as thermals, they are incredibly scratchy and start to fall apart really quickly. They also dont come up high enough on the waist.

I honestly never realised just how much thought and preparation some people put into being warm.

Is it just me who uses a cheap sleeping bag and wears nothing but his birthday suit to sleep?

There probably is more than just you, but most of us do put a lot of thought into it, otherwise we freeze.

I'm just going to echo Samharber's suggestion at the beginning and add to it with:

Those heat packs that have a metal tab inside that you click and the liquid turns solid and hot.

The sleeping bag and the suitable bed are the utter musts though... and who ever it was that mentioned that "you get what you pay for" in sleeping bags was quite right... Spend the money on it and it will last you a really looong time and keep you toasty warm

I mostly use a reasonably old and broken sleeping bag, and if I get cold sleep on/under spare kit
