Also I think that a Spartacist group would be cool (as in 'slave rebellion' before some boor starts going on again) - I reckon that it would work within any culture, though Roman is the obvious one.

Oh. Ooh. Um.

I may be a bit excited.

I strongly recommend you get a senet set - I'm writing up rules on how our group will be playing it. I can send you a copy when the time comes and tis finished. Senet houses were very popular, and they did serve refreshments.

I like the idea overall

Aye - senet is on my list of boardgames - particularly because it's quick to learn and very simple.

Incidentally - I'd welcome any others who fancied in on the concept: PM me.

Oracles and their supporters/priests/adherents would be interesting - Not only a Greek idea either - I believe that Alexander went to Siwa in Egypt to consult with one. Oh, but that might have been greekish on second thoughts.

The Siwa Oasis contained (or was nearby to) an Egyptian oracle temple of Amun (Greek: Zeus-Ammon) - definitely Egyptian but was well-known to Greeks, even before Alexander, because Herodotus frothed about it. If you like eXtreme prophetesses, you'll probably like the Libyan Sibyl: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libyan_Sibyl

"Serapion, in his epic verses, says that the Sibyl, even when dead ceased not from divination."

This might be a bit of a tired larp-cliche. but should there be groups of murderous assassins attached to either the Persians or the Carthaginians ?

Not that I'd want to encourage any of that underhanded-thinking of course...

In this period? There probably should be assassin's attached to most nations, groups though...well...Collegia...I guess, for Rome...others have their equivalents or work better with individual members of groups.
