Whilst there's been quite a bit of discussion on costume, armour and weaponry, there's been little mention of things like props, tentage and set dressing.

I'm assuming that there will be something like the Maelstrom rules regarding IC tentage : that as long as the tent is dressed either inside or out, it's IC. (and therefore not assuming that we're somehow all going to have to go out and source authentic tents)

However, will there be some guidelines as to suitable set dressing, as appropriate to each of the cultures? With certain materials being rare (such as glass) or entirely non-existent (such as plastic!) for the period, should there be some encouragement towards having wooden bowls, earthenware drinking vessels and basketwork storage containers out on display.

I'm really not looking to open up an argument about chairs (that's a hot topic, but folding chairs are fine with a throw covering them as far as I'm concerned) but inquiring whether there should be some measure of 'authenticity' applied to the props as much as there is to costuming - even going as far as suggesting cultural specific items for each of the groups. (e.g Greek statues of the gods look like this http://www.statue.com/greek-goddess-statues.html - Egyptian ones look like this http://www.prometheus-imports.com/egyptian-statues.htm?row2col2=egyptian-statuesrow2col2.htm)

In addition, has anyone got any tips where to source such items? i.e http://www.abaxion.com/statue.htm - statues.

Kinda. We're going to 'raise the bar' a little with resepct to tents and they must look appropriately IC inside and out. This means, broadly, that if you're using a nylon dome tent then it has to be very carefully dressed - a throw of camo-netting will not be enough. The best IC tents are usually purpose made period reproductions. Green canvas army tents and gazebos are acceptable, but modern nylon tents by themselves are not. If you are going to use a nylon dome tent in the IC area then you must dress and decorate the tent so that it looks suitable for the setting.

However, will there be some guidelines as to suitable set dressing, as appropriate to each of the cultures? We're not doing reenactment. The more people want to go with wooden bowls and earthenware drinking vessels the better but we're not going to police it. In terms of guidelines - it's possible that something will emerge (Daisy?) but whilst we want to be as helpful as we can the effort will be on areas where we NEED to legislate (weapons, armour) and have most value (costume) rather than the icing on the cake like this.

Surely better if people share their ideas and some kind of consensus emerges?

Cool. I'd rather everyone encouraged and shared ideas than if there was an enforced requirement.

I'm also not a stickler for historical accuracy and really don't mind if someone is using a shiny plastic plate as a gold trencher (they're much easier to wash up, after all)

Morrisons sell wooden bowls - I think they intend them as serving bowls,  but they make excellent cheap IC bowls. The small ones are 50p or something. They also sell baskets with lids which are fantastic for storing OC things like cans and packets of food in an IC looking way. I cant remember the price but they are pretty cheap.

If there's demand for it I can share the research I did into wooden/earthenware bowls, however it was mostly wholesalers that I was looking at...

I was thinking more about some notes on stuff people might want to look at to accessorise their game - rather than doing it for them!

Just a quick query on the tent issue.
There have been some people in 'strom who have complained about the use of nylon teepees as IC tents, is there a particular PD stance on them in Odyssey? Do they fall under the category of 'need some accessorising but not too bad' or are they a no go?

I don't have any personal experience of them - but if they look nylon then that sounds like a lot of covering would be needed. I suspect what you might find is that the cost of effectively covering the whole thing will prove prohibitive.

Specifically it's one of these. Getting covering fabric shouldn't be too difficult or would something akin to a bamboo windbreak that could go around the bottom and cover the obviously clear PVC windows be appropriate?
