Just thought I'd mention that there are two awesome looking Odyssey-esque movies due for release in March 2010. Always great for looking at all the lovely costumes:
Centurion

Clash of the Titans (remake)
http://clash-of-the-titans-movie-trailer.blogspot.com/2009/04/clash-of-titans-movie-remake-in-2010.html
Other movies I can think of are:
GREECE
Jason and the Argonauts
Clash of the titans (1981)
Alexander
Troy
Various Hercules movies
300
ROME
Ben Hur
Gladiator
The Last legion
Quo Vadis
Spartacus
I'm not up on the other nations - any suggestions?
Also the Rise of the Argonauts game is worth a play. Tearing around as Jason of Iolcus in search of the golden feece - great fun with lots of interaction with the Greek gods.
MAELSTROM: Thromm Gildersson-Novak
ODYSSEY: Diogenes of Isthmia
"REAL" LIFE: Owen Choules
"Shiieeettttt!" Because every character needs a catchphrase

Source material is tricky when it comes to cinema and TV. Here's some obvious (and perhaps not so obvious) stuff that the Story and Campaign muses have been grazing on during the creative process...
Greece: Alexander (2004 film), Troy (film starring Brad Pitt & Eric Bana), Helen of Troy* (HBO series, starring Rufus Sewell), Jason and the Argonauts, 300 Spartans (1961 film), Clash of the Titans* (1981 film), 300* (2008 film), plus any remake of the Odyssey (my personal favourite is O Brother Where Art Thou).
Rome: Rome* (HBO TV series starring Kevin McKidd and Ray Stevenson), Gladiator, I Claudius* (1976 BBC TV series), Cleopatra* (1963 film starring Richard Burton and Liz Taylor), Ben Hur, Demetrius and the Gladiators, Quo Vadis. Rome is probably best represented on screen of the five cultures - there's plenty to choose from.
Persia: Alexander (2004 film), 300 (2008 film), Solomon and Sheba (1959 film), Samson and Delilah (1949 film) - I've also been reading a lot about Zoroastrianism, dualist religion, Achaemenid and Sassanid history and parallels between biblical period stories and the Persian empire. Any biblical film with an old testament feel will usually figure Egyptians, Persians or proto-Persians as the "bad guys".
Egypt: Cleopatra (as above), The Ten Commandments (1956), The Mummy (1999), The Mummy Returns (2001), The Awakening* (1984, starring Charlton Heston and Stefanie Zimbalist). I've also been rereading Lovecraft and Wilbur Smith's "Taita" novels.
Carthage: 10,000BC (2008), Conan the Barbarian* (1982), Conan the Destroyer (1984), Red Sonja (1985), The Scorpion King* (2002). Give Robert E. Howard a good read and you won't go far wrong.
Films marked * come with my personal recommendation.

There is also, of course, the 2010 remake of Clash of the Titans, due out in the US in March, with Sam Worthington of Terminator: Salvation infamy as Perseus, Liam Neeson as Zeus and Rafe Fiennes as Hades. It's all over this month's issue of Empire magazine.

How could you have left out the Sinbad films? Obviously there was no TV series of the same name made in recent years, which is fortunate.
Of course, I'm not sure if it counts as Carthage or Persia.
So... are "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" and "Xena: Warrior Princess" on the banned list?
Dont listen to me, I don't larp any more.

There's a great article about Centurion in Empire with 100 Roman factoids included. Screenshots are looking really good.
