As you are probably aware Jenny became ill at the event and was taken to hospital.  She is showing signs of Meningitis, the doctors can not currently confirm the diagnosis, but they admitted her to hospital and are treating her for that illness.  She is doing ok.  I will pass on any meaasages posted here to her.

There have been some concerns regarding how contagious or otherwise Meningitis is.  I have sought advise from the doctors treating Jenny and from the Menigitus reasearch Foundation http://www.meningitis.org and they both say that the risks of contagion are incredibly low so that it is not being treated as a contagious desease.  Of the two types of menigistis, viral meningitis is rarely life threatening and oftern requires no medical treatment.  There are various bacterias that can cause meningitis carried by large percentage of the population without causing the desease, only a very small percentage of people develop the illness.  Most adults in this country have come into contact with bacteria that have the potential to cause menigitis at some point in their lives.  The bacteria has a very short lifespan outside of the body and is not likely to be passed by surfaces or objects, generally it is passed by close contact with someone carrying the bacteria - but as already stated even if you have the bacteria, it does not mean you would get ill.

At this stage it is not confirmed if Jenny has meningitis or if she does which form.  It is always worth being aware of the symptoms and if you have any concerns about your own health to seek medical advice.  For details of the symptons or for general information about menigitis I recomend the Foundations website http://www.meningitis.org
