If you don't know me in real life, I'm Richard Thomas. I'm an English teacher from Sheffield with an interest in the relationship between creative writing and roleplaying. A lot of people write about their characters, others write original supplementary material for their groups. I'm doing a bit of research on this, with the long term view of encouraging players to take a collaborative role in creating and developing roleplaying settings.

I'm doing a bit of a pilot study at the moment. If you write (or have written) character fiction or were significantly involved in writing a cultural brief for your group, I'd be interested in talking to you at the weekend. At this stage, I only really want to talk but if people were keen to show me some of their writing, I'd be more than happy to read it. Participation can remain anonymous, or we could go the whole hog with recorded interviews and photos - whatever you're comfortable doing.

I won't be getting to the event until comparatively late on Friday, so I'll probably set time aside to do these things before time-in on Saturday and Sunday (and possibly after time-out on Sunday if people aren't in a hurry to get off-site).

If you want to get involved, email me at: sailorshovelATyahoo.co.uk or come and see me at the event.

UPDATE:

Kingston University declined to fund this project, but the work goes on. I've received stuff from people already and am keen to see more - keep it coming!

In the long term, I'm looking at ways in which player writing can be used as the foundation of collaboratively built event.
