A few points of advice to users of our forums.

  1. Rule7 is not a war, electing to take part in a discussion implies you are willing to listen as well as talk (i.e. you can read as well as write).
  2. Just because you may be able to type faster or have more time than other people does not make your view any better than anyone else.
  3. Admitting you are wrong often earns you a lot of respect.
  4. Using up bandwith for topics only you are interested in is pretty selfish.
  5. It is not wise to start a debate on real life religion. Everyone has a different view and the arguments are pretty circular.
  6. Playing devil’s advocate in a discussion is fine. Playing devil’s advocate all the time is not. People respect you more if you have opinions and reasons for them.
  7. Likewise though, you do not have all the answers - get over it.
  8. Big words do not necessarily make for better argument. People like nice concise replies that are to the point and a little humorous.
  9. The entire site is themed towards the development of LRP/LARP. That’s the focus, think about it when you choose your subjects.
  10. Venting by writing out what you feel you need to say and then deleting it before posting, is often a very good idea; you’ll always post better when you’re calm.
  11. Mugger’s Alley is not a place for the faint hearted. Neither is it a place for wannabe crime lords. The area is for topics you know will get heated. So use is wisely and be aware it’s just as carefully moderated as everywhere else.
  12. System forums have their own particular rules on what they accept or don’t accept. Take the time to read them, as these can be a little different to the main forum areas.
  13. Some topics are just offensive to people. We aren’t in the business of defending your right to free speech. We are in the business of listening to opinions. If its LRP/LARP users or political debate, I’m gonna go with LRP/LARP users.
  14. We do not like L33t.
  15. If someone gets offended, just apologise. It sorts the problem out so much quicker than if you start getting high horses involved.
  16. Medieval inches are not an acceptable means of measurement.
  17. Cheese-making skill discussions are not conducive to your long-term user account.
  18. Straw men belong in cornfields.
  19. The internet is not a medium that conveys humour very well – particularly certain brands of sarcasm. If people don’t get the joke see point 15.
  20. Grammatical criticism as an argument is only really acceptable if you can’t tell what the person means. If it’s just because you’re picky, see point 7.
  21. Take the time to read the threads you post on. Often, when they get long your question may already have been answered.
  22. Be prepared for the fact that your nice new shiny idea may already have been thought of by someone else.
  23. Keep your "sig" on a lead and under control.
  24. "The Dinner Lady Defense" - crying foul on a thread and recommending moderator action without actually following the correct procedures to get said action is a bit like a school kid tugging on the dinner lady's sleeve and saying "he hit me!". There is a procedure, please use it.
