Hi all.

Does anyone have any idea where i can get hold of the cord/braiding suitable for the front detail on a hussars jacket?

Cheers

Not much help really, but you could check through the traders list for foreign fields (there's a link in the traders section).  I know that one chap there was selling patterns and components for napoleonic era costumes.  Will try to find you more details

The people that make such items will tell you it's the tie-backs for curtains, so get it from that sort of shop, drapers etc.  The cord-braiding is what you are talking about right?  You can get it in pretty much any colour and thickness.

Ark Haberdashery in Manchester have a good range of braiding -- I got my frock-coat braid from there:

Otherwise usually crew ("Quite spry & fit, & willing to wear a big costume & run around a lot" -- various event organisers)

Military Braiding can be purchased from a number of costuming and re-enactment suppliers, Google brings back a couple of names; I mainly see it at re-enactment fairs.

A word of warning, military braiding can be very expensive so it's probably worth speaking to your local dressmaker’s shop to see if they have or can order something similar in for you. Curtain cord can be used as an alternative but it isn't designed to be stitched to a uniform (doesn't tend to have a flat side) so doesn't sit right and is harder to sew on.
