Well I don't know how attached you guys are to running events at a site in the south, I've kind of been tracking down little wooded potential LRP sites up here around Nottingham. Nothing fancy just woodland camping. Would something more Midlandsish be a potential area?

I am very willing to travel for a good idea, and since this is my idea.....LOL!

However I dont drive yet, that is the only thing I would point out.

I dont think the wood's are going to work on long thought.

However, if people from the north (beyond london) are willing to travel there is a 16th century living history village down here in gosport, I am trying to see if we can use that.

However I really would rather that we had our own site that we could boost systems from.

Thoughts?

I'm willing to travel as well of coarse for weekend events and I think I've seen the site you're talking about on the web and it does look great if you could get use of that. Maybe a few games and try a few sites and then see how it goes before we go for finding our own site? Our own site would be great, but a big step and expense. I'll chase up the woodland site up here to see if we could use it. It's basic by the look of things and owned by a scout group that doesn't use it much because it is basic. I'll keep you posted.
My main worry was that if you had twenty odd players down south ready to play and having the site oop north would put them off attending?

What about Wilderness farm-check out the photo's on the Refuge site, it's about 5 min's off the A438, just outside Wrexham, motorway (or good A) all the way from anywhere. It's got a partly consructed fort (get's more constructed every event) , beautiful scenery, great woods and well nice host who'll even offer catering and B&B for those don't mind paying a little extra.
You might even get the Refuge lot to monster/crew ( they're young(ish) -mostly, open to ideas and very keen).
Or Cosmoston Medieval village, just west of Cardiff, so again easy to get to- gorgeous-mostly stone built village (does have resident group- but you could talk to them).

Wilderness Farm does look quite good actually! I was wonderring if it would be best if we ran outside of the traditionla LRP season , bleak winter, no leaves on the trees etc fits in with the world background. In fact the plague wasn't so active during winter months because the fleas that carried it weren't active so that fits in. If we made sure the players were equiped for bad weather and ther was a warm dry IC place to retire to then that would be a bonus.

Such as Downgate Wood, see if that is still up for use....the guy who ran the place (whose name escapes me) sadly passed away a few years back. I went there in the days of Kingdom of the Skull (great name!), and I beleive FnH used the site at times, then later Taggers used it. Maybe it's still sitting there...unused. Might be worth looking up?

I doubt if Downgate is available or useful these days. After John Blau died it was comprehensively ruined by 'woodland management' who only seemed interested in harvesting the large trees and chestnut coppicing.

A damned shame all round.
