Its not as pathetic as taking a degree in Klingon... but its close. oooo... I are having a grumpy day.

As one of the persons who reviewed Dr. Morton's paper before it was published, I'd be really interested in hearing what you base that comment on, as well as your qualifications for appraising it as conjecture and as spurious in its claims. So if you'd be so kind as to give an explanation (perhaps on the Academia forum, as it's most appropriate), I'd be willing to consider that lash-out as something more than just unintelligent bigotry.

| I disagree with the current worlds need to try and legitimise every single pass-time, hobby and trade by academising it and subjecting it to so called 'expert' analysis. This, as with most academic circles, is generally an attempt to formalise a set of 'spokespeople' who will somehow claim academic expertise and a higher degree of understanding of the subject they are attempting to elevate. This, as is already the case, will be used to try and suggest their views are more legitimate and therfore belittle other views by virtue of their self created academic seniority.

(perhaps on the Academia forum, as it's most appropriate), No. Its a book on LARP. A LARP forum (or LRP as I stupidly insist on calling it) is therefore precisely the correct location to discuss it. Its the fact that you think its more appropriate on an academic forum i have issue with.

I think that LRP is a term born of self-definition. Things in the past that might look a bit like LRP now aren't LRP, cos they didn't think they were doing any Live Role Playing.
Now, there, I think you might have something.
Who were the first group to use the term Live Roleplaying to describe what they were doing?

First time I heard the phrase lrp was when around 1979 when they was a film about these kids playing dnd and then one went mad and started killing peeps. I think the film was called 'The Maze' or 'Maces and Mazes' anyone? it was a yanky movie! by the way I was 6 and was very naughty for watching it and it did give me nightmares...they may have lead to all me disfunctions and problems I've had in later life...!!!
