Just a quick post from the Jade Lotus's point of view before the thread is closed

How much do you spend OOC on food for events? Just think about it and add up what you bring with what you buy at the event. The Jade Lotus runs on a cost of £25 each from the people who run it and that covers all our own food for the weekend aswell. Now I'm not saying we don't spend a little extra on this and that, and overall we've spent quite a bit on costume and set dressing but lets face it many people in that field have spent huge amounts of cash on costume and armour.

As for how much we make IC, come and talk to us, we'll even tell you what we spend it all on, but I'd  prefer to have some FOIP

I'm not saying that we don't make money from this, but then we do work hard, we start cooking at 8am and finish at 10pm and then we have to clear up. We're also food hygine covered and several people have commented on how well our OOC kitchen is set up.

As for the OOC food traders we have no issues, in fact we've traded Steamed Buns for Bacon Sandwiches at the Kings Banquet several times (there is such as thing as too much Chinese food!)

Jam

aka Mr Wang - one of the Chefs at the Jade Lotus.

and to finish so I can feel big and clever again.....

And then there's Jade Lotus. Where others have dared to tread, they have blazed a truly extraordinary trail. I paid £40 for a meal from a Japanese restaurant in Preston and it wasn't a patch on the food from Jade Lotus. Jade Lotus don't just make the world feel real, they make it feel beautiful. They make it feel extraordinary. When I fight the villain I don't want to fight Bob the slightly uninspiring villainous wretch I want an incredible fight with Conan the Destroyer, barbarian of the wastelands. When I eat, I don't just want to eat at a restaurant - I want to eat an incredible meal in the most incredible setting - and that means Jade Lotus. Jade Lotus don't just add to the game world, they quite literally make it extraordinary.

I have not the slightest problem with dissent, assuming the point can be proved to be valid. When it boils down to just jumping up and down in the cot shouting "I want I want!" and throwing one's dummy around, then that isnot proving a point.

Y'see, this is what I'm talking about. People are expressing dissatisfaction with a particular situation and being immediately dismissed and belittled. Perhaps that's one of the mysterious Things Putting People Off Posting On Rule 7? Nah, couldn't be, only people disagreeing with a particular line discussion are allowed to use that argument...

You may like to observe that I am one of the people who rarely posts on here, except to publicise events, because I don't like the sort of behaviour I frequently see on here.  You may also note that on the rare occasions I do post I am usually on the minority side of any argument.  And actually, I didn't immediately belittle anyone, I waited till they proved they had no reasonable argument and then commented that the style of argument employed was childish and emotional (i.e. the style of argument that keeps me from posting  on many occasions).  Further, I have already stated that my interest in this is intellectual, I have no emotional investment in this whole issue - unlike some, it would appear.

OBJECTION: It would be taking the piss so monumentally that it's not worth discussing.

which was the orignal point I was making, written in reply to "I STILL fail see the negatives" of OC services for IC money.

the mechanisms, social contracts are all different.

On really?

What about the licenced Everquest larp in the US, where characters and itmes could be ported directly back forth between the larp and the mmorpg?
