I've used the verb "to ballgown" IC as an orc to describe the activities of a bunch of elves who were a bit combat-reluctant. It was meant offensively (IC) in that set-up, although not taken that way (I think they thought it was a compliment). I've never encountered its OOC use, but I don't imagine it's that offensive.

Why yes, thank you. I'm a ballgowner, if you mean I put on costume during the weekend that I wouldn't get to use during the week and socialize. I think I look pretty good in full armour...
So, no, I don't find the term particularly offensive. I also don't believe I've ever met anyone who purely falls into category (i). I suspect it's a really tiny minority of LRPers, and furthermore, i suspect that once exposed to other LRPers, tend to morph into Category (ii).
Can we find some derogatory terms for anyone who just wants to turn up to events to get drunk and fight things and doesn't consider anything else to be proper LRP?

| I have heard this phrase used for years now, but not with the same meanings as posted here. In my social circles a "Ballgowner" is someone who takes advantage of certain OOC attributes to gain IC gain, typically using their appearence or sexual attraction. They often use ooc and IC "attacks" to gain their goal flirting with the players and the characters, often changing characters themselves to better fit in with their targets.
