| I recommend Bang, as a cheap flexible cardgame (plays 4-7, or 3-8 with the expansion) I also recommend '3 dragon ante'. You might also want to consider a classic boardgame set (i.e. chess, backgammon, etc) and a good poker/cards set.

| Has anyone mentioned Democrazy? Card game, based on accumulating coloured beads (and by extension, points). Players can then use cards to propose new rules, which are then voted on (such as "red beads are worth two points" or "everyone with a beard gets a free point"). New rules can be later struck down by popular vote or vetoed. EDIT - and don't forget Chrononauts, I love Chrononauts almost as much as I hate Fluxx.

| I love Arkham Horror. It's a long game that you will all quite frequently loose. So victory always feels so much sweeter on the times when when it happens. And the feeling of dread as the end comes ever closer just can't be beaten. I love it. And I love the flavour texts, and the entire mythos it's based on, and the way each game feels totally unique, and... Yes. I love Arkham. It can be long tho. You need to set aside a day, or a whole evening-late-into-the-morning. So it may not be ideal for a uni group.

Also Apples to Apples (A card game based upon how well you know the rest of the players).
Primordial Soup is my all time favourite game, the expansion pack can be brought on the doris and frank website. Its in german but translations are available online (also increases the number of players).
Edited as primordial soup has been mentioned.

Kung Fu Fighting is a fun fast paced game. People who love martial arts type films esp. With my Dragon stance I do a jumping, flying, spinning, roundhouse kick to your head!
Gloom caters to the people with an evil streak, the player who heaps the most misfortune to their family wins.
Once upon a time, is favorite of mine as well.

Arkham horror and Infernal contraption are the only ones there that I know. We play Arkham at our club sometimes, but we make sure at least two people have played before and that everyone has 5-7 hours free! Infernal contraptions I have only played two player, and noticed that it's a very landslide game - once you get the advantage it's easy to build on that - if you're pulling 8 cards per turn out of the opponent's pile, he'll run out pretty quick. However, my other half has played it at club with 4 people and apparently it was great fun.
Games I quite like:
Guillotine. About £8, very simpe rules, a game takes about half an hour, lots of room for strategy, fun. Based on the french revolution, slightly cartoony style, aim is to execute the coolest nobles.
Cheapass games: Can't go wrong. £5 each or so, tend to be a bit 'quirky', kill doctor lucky is my favourite (note that there is a 'deluxe' version that is more expensive). You need at least 4 players, though. Length of games vary depending on how good you are.
Zombies: I don't know on this one - I really like it, but it almost always ends up as a half hour game of 'get the helipad card out' (the aim is to reach the helipad and escape the city full of zombies) and then a two hour game of 'backstab your fellow players just before they win' with cards like go back to the beginning, miss a turn, and spawn more zombies. Often results in the winner being the person on whose turn you can't be bothered any more. But introduce a few house rules and it's great.
Polarity: a quiet, contemplative game - you play with magnets, and have to balance your piece in the magnetic field of the other pieces without attracting anything already on the board. Needs a stable table, and steady hands but is really cool.
Khet: It's kinda like chess or something, only with LASERS! Your pieces are mirrored, you need to reflect the laser beam so it hits the enemy king, and protect your own. Haven't played, but I want it.
£20-30ish section...
Diplomacy: Awesome game, perfect for people who like political conniving RP and are always slightly disappointed by Risk. Lots of careful alliance-brokering. However, and I'm not exaggerating here, if you play it for 10 hours solid you might get about half way through. So either make note of where everything was at the end and play for 4 sessions, or be prepared to play from early morning to, well, early morning. Maybe early afternoon... 5-7 players. Very fun, though.
War on Terror the Boardgame: slightly topical, kind of like a cross between risk and settlers of cataan, only with terrorists. You get a balaclava with 'EVIL' on it, though, which is awesome. Fun.
Stonehenge: Haven't played, but really want to. Friend says it's great, and it's 5 games for the price of one, which is cool anyway. They got 5 of the biggest names in boardgames, gave them the same board and pieces, and they made 5 different games - in one you auction off the stones, in another it's alien chariot racing. Win.
Doom: 1 person plays the computer/GM, and spawns monsters, the other 3 try not to die hideously. Difficult, but satisfying, and comes with big plastic gribbly things. Co-operative - if the three players don't pull together as a team you WILL die. GM wins when you have respawned 6 times - note that that's between you.
Order of the Stick: Like the order of the stick webcomic? There's a boardgame. Play as the order of the stick, backstab each other or help, your call, get treasure, defeat Zykon. Haven't read Order of the Stick? Still fun, but makes a bit less sense. Read it anyway, it's funny.
Ticket to Ride: Lay train tracks. Sounds boring, isn't. You all have various tickets, with routes like Edinburgh to Stockholm - 7 points, or Madrid to Sevastopol, 20 points. You have to make those routes with your trains, longer routes are harder to make but get you more points, hope no-one else is trying to get there or you will cut each other off. Europe or America version, lots of different ways to play - aggressively, packrat, all or nothing, ignore everyone else and get on with your own... I likes it.
I have a fairly extensive boardgames collection at home... um... yeah.
Those are good, and fun, check them out, PM if you want a game...
Current Character: Thenakala Jinx of the Wayward Scholars
Previous Characters: Tseleth of Raid Hive, Lady Clara D'Angeline of Mill-en, Mila aka 'Cake Lady' (for approx. 4 hours)
RL: Roisin/Rosie.
