| 'fest larp' as in 'festival larp.' A larp involving a number of players over a certain critical mass (by my definition, 100). Particularly one run in the UK or german style, based around the conflicts between multiple fractions, with a festival atmosphere / logisitics. Based on your guide, it sounded like you were from an LT background? Is this not the case? What larps have you done?

| Actually, I agree with Allen Stroud, your view of what new LRPers need to know is not the same as mine, plus there are variations from system to system - for example none of the events I play have catering vans (some are catered by the organisers, some arent) or the blunt/sharp thing. This is why I suggested making it system specific rather than general.

Ias, Thank you for some great advice. I look forward to reading your guide and promise not to take you to task over something to help new people.
I played LT for several years (until about 4 years ago) but since then have done a lot of other systems from modern, to sci-fi and medieval/fantasy (or whatever you call it) style.
But the "...so 1990's" comment made me think that people have varied tastes in what they want from larp and a few videos I have just seen (from links of people who spoke on this topic) have made me feel that I am happy with the systems I play!
I now know what "fest larp" is and so can say I have done a few "fest larp" systems and some non-fest ones.
I will have a read of the other systems introductions to new players that people have suggested and take the well experienced advice they must offer.
Much chastised for asking for comments and advice but full of hope for a good guide from those with the experience and know all of my hobby.
Colin

Don't take anything I've said an attack. I'm merely offering detailed feedback on the statements you make. Can you see how they (eg. saving the world every month) don't apply to the wider variety of larp (e.g. a 1920's horror larp, a vampire larp)?

| hi I would like to say what you are attempting to do is a great idea but can only be written uniquely for each system those people that go onto forums are mostly very opinionated people and have strong beliefs so some of their replies may seem a bit harsh. (this isn't a criticism btw its good to have feelings about your hobbies) they do mean well however. about 18 years ago almost all of the LRP clubs at that time got together to try and bring some sort of basic guide/introduction to lrp similar to what you are doing it was almost a complete failure, it seems that no 2 live role players will agree on everything so the idea of all the clubs having any sort of standards was going to be very difficult. However a lot of clubs and individuals did turn up which in itself was a good thing. The problem is that no 2 clubs/businesses will have the same rules/ideas and therefore 1 guide could not possibly be the same for everyone. Its a bit like trying to tell a wargamer who plays napoleonics to use the same rules as one who does warhammer, possible but really really hard. The thing that was generally agreed was that every club should not call themselves LRP clubs but should have unique names/game systems ie PD LT CP Heroquest etc. With the end to advertise and the fact that the internet now rules our lives this no longer can be the case. So can i suggest that you call your publication the guide to medway LARP If you would like some more suggestions as to what to put in it do a search uk only for LARP and live role playing. Look on the 100 sites for the different clubs and see what they have put up as there are some brilliant ones out there. If thatisn'tt enough try the vampire role playing clubs or other similar role players who never use weapons or even have combat because some of their intro guides are amazing. hope that helps Mark/SFB

Interesting... I`ll continue the myth though, and will expand it too include 'energy drinks' like Red Bull. If people can`t stay awake by themselves, they should go to bed, safer in a lot of ways.

Personally, I think that's a bit irresponsible - if you're talking to adults, you might as well let them make their own decisions.
Not that advising people to sleep rather than chug down Red Bull isn't a good idea, mind.
Another good excuse to be dead.

| Aw, can`t I be just a wee bit irresponsible? I always had to be responsible when I was a child, I was kinda hoping I could get rid of that now that I`m a grown-up? Alright then, but only when I`m talking to adults, okay? I didn`t mean it quite that literally, I suppose. But I will advise (when confronted) against too much cafeine and guarano and that other stuff, what`s it called again? I really don`t think a heap of agitable, hyped-up players make an event more enjoyable. Enthusiasm, yes, adrenaline, yes, but 'farmaceutical stimulants' - however mild en legal - no.
Truth is, I have been physically threathened by people a number of times under circumstances that make me suspect a high intake of cafeine/guarano/other stuff (and sometimes coke) was a dominant factor, so I`m a little opinionated.
