As the organiser of DNDLarp thought I'd post this here...
The day started out well except for the *very* bad rain. We run events on the third Saturday of every month at Hainault Forest Country Park, and were expecting light rain (in the end we had some rather heavy rain in the morning that turned to drizzle for the rest of the day).
We had just under 20 people turning up, so were running two adventures in different parts of the forest, one for new characters, and one for higher level characters. I was running the low level adventure, and my second, Greg, was running the other adventure.
After the obligatory battle-boarding and setup we started our adventures.
IC
My party found a rather nice and easy job: escorting a young man from one Waterdeep to Daggerford. Apparently he had a slight run-in with a bandit chief a few weeks earlier. Unfortunately this encounter had occurred while the young man was climbing out of the bandit chief's wife's window... Naturally he was rather worried about his safety.
Things started rather quietly, with the group trudging through the rain on the main road to Daggerford. There were few other travellers - no doubt the weather putting them off. After a couple of hours travel we came across what appeared to be a toll on the road. Now this didn't sit right with my escort, who argued with the guards a little. It wasn't long before a rather attractive senior guard called the two on the road over to have a chat with them. After a few words she started walking towards us, so I gave her a nice friendly greeting. I don't think she appreciated the comment about her beauty as she turned around and strode angrily away. We took this opportunity to pass the other guards who appeared to be trying to hold their laughter in.
Not long after this we saw some bandits approaching, and my companions called out to them - warning them to leave us alone or suffer the consequences. Sadly these bandits did not take the hint, and decided to attack. Needless to say my companions dealt with them in rather an efficient manner, by which time more bandits were appearing.
Unfortunately one of my companions, a sorcerer, was not very well practised and managed to set fire to two of our group as well as several of the bandits. Thankfully the rain and wet ground dealt with that quite quickly, but not before I was hit by one of the bandits... My companions managed to deal with the last of the bandits (one of whom even managed to injure one of their own in an effort to escape), leaving us free to continue towards the Roosting Griffon Inn.
Reaching the Inn we stopped for a meal, and had some interesting conversations with some other patrons there, before deciding to continue our journey.
OOC Again
At this point I received a phone call from Greg running the second adventure, where one of our younger players had managed to slip and dislocate his knee. Hearing the significance of the injury, and as the first aider and head ref for the day, I told the rest of my group to head back to the car park and that we would be calling it a day somewhat early (this was around 2:30, we were planning to finish around 4:15). Greg and I arranged to meet about half-way between our two adventures at a mutually known spot (the beacon), and make our way to the injured party from there. I changed my radio frequency to match his, then hung up and called an ambulance.
It took about 10 minutes to reach Greg, and another 5 minutes to reach the location. As soon as I got there I sent two parties with radios out, one to the tree line, and one to the nearest car-park (which I had directed the ambulance to). I also had Greg phone the subject's parents (family friends) so they could get there. The rest of the party got sent back to the carpark with to meet the first party (who already had a radio).
His parents were the first to arrive (closer than the hospital) and helped calm the subject while waiting for the ambulance.
When the ambulance arrived one of the paramedics came to us, while the other tried to find a way to get the ambulance closer (thanks to the park police there). After a quick examination it was declared that it was indeed a dislocated patella (kneecap), and that it would need to be reset before going anywhere. The subject (aged 16) obviously didn't think much of this idea, but the offer of gas + air calmed him down somewhat.
Once the ambulance had moved to be as close as possible we brought a wheeled stretcher around, and gave the subject gas and air, with the second paramedic resetting the knee. The subject did not even realise that it had been done, and had to be told that it was reset several minutes later when putting him up onto the stretcher. His parents accompanied him back to A&E (failing that, I would have), where he was strapped up and returned home.
I would like to thank the London Ambulance Service (in Romford) for their help and professionalism.
The subject has taken no long-lasting damage from this, and it was quite obvious from the site of the accident that there was nothing that could have been done to prevent it. It was simply a matter of having the legs straight and slipping on some wet leaves while trying to attack - Greg had chosen a safe place for that encounter so (despite his worries) nobody thinks he was at all responsible for the accident.
Important things to learn (if you're not doing them already)
If running an event make sure you know the nearest road name. The 999 service is good, but they cannot find locations that are well known, only from a postcode or road. Learn the name of the road you get to an event from and it will save a lot of time!
Make sure you know the status of the injured party (conscious, type of injury if known etc) - in other words, go on a first aid course.
Make sure you have contact details for next of kin / family.
Make sure that the First Aider can be easily contacted if they're not with your party.
Don't be scared of cancelling an event if needed. If I had been part of the injured parties adventure then I would have let the second adventure carry on oblivious (unless there was a relative there).
First aid courses run from £60, go to the St John Ambulance site, click on Training Courses, then choose the Activity First Aid courses. They run all year around the country and will teach everything needed. It's money well spent.

Just come onto our forums and ask around. They're relatively new, and I'm still working on the website - but any questions asked will be answered (and noted for when i do the FAQ pages). If you follow my profile you can also get my MSN (which isn't an email address) and talk to me directly.
Just as a quick bit of info - it's really normal d20 (ie, D&D) in a larp setting. Most numbers follow the "divide by three" rules (damage etc), some are maximised (hp, healing). If there's some bonus then it's added directly (longsword+2 = 1d8+2 = (8/3)+2 = 4 damage). We have one or two adventures every month on the third Saturday at Hainault Forest Country Park (see website for details). The first one-day you come to is free, thereafter it's £5 per person per event.

Many systems use these forums as a shopfront and maintain a presence here. I am happy to set that up for you, should you request it.

good thinking about your comment about knowing the road, and any landmarks that you can mention help drivers too...
Doodling is an artform, an unrefined one, and it's great for stress relief
, so if you're curious, how about paying a visit to:

Thanks for the offer Allen - however I'm in the middle of writing the custom forums for it which will allow a lot more than "normal" forums, such as being able to reward IC posts with Exp, being able to post as any of your characters (and refs being able to post as NPCs) and basically anything else I can shoehorn into it when I have an idea ;-)
If I wasn't a born tinkerer I'd jump at the offer :-)
