Yes dude, we said it was ok to use Sai, cos they're just LARP daggers. Of course the weapons have to be safe and you cannot stab or weapon lock. But if you want LARP daggers that look like Sai, you're allowed them

06cal23 (12/4/2007) Well i posted on skully forum and everyone said it would be fine thats what system i would play inReally? you posted on Skull duggery and said you wanted to use Sai as Sai and they said it would be fine? I suspect they thought you meant normal LRP weapons that happened to look like Sai... Honestly mate theyll get ripped up badly cos the quillons(?) wont be reinforced. The skully chaps are very friendly though... im sure theyd lend you some kit if its yer first event.... weapons are really expensive (well in my world they are) and its best to get a feel for different types/makers before you commit that cash.... besides it would be an arse to buy them and then get hideously slain... Sai knives would be a 'signature' weapon so be difficult to change them to another character... also they are a pain in the arse to make scabbards for.... and you DO need a scabbard.... please God whatever you get do not stuff them through your belt or one of those metal 'sword rings' It'll just knacker your weapon completely.... and it makles the weapons maker cry when he sees it.... (or in the case of Simon Medlock it will make him beat you to death with a latex oar.)

| You really need to think about what all these hundreds of years experience of "great" ideas that didn't work are telling you. Don't blow you money- just go along, the guys at Skullduggery seem really nice, and you'll get to suss out what you can and can't do- then buy weapons that'll make you feel good about playing. In this hobby form always has to follow function.

It'll be your very first LARP game, and we do have our resident weapon maker (Colin of LARP Medway) who will be more than willing to hire weapons to you for a nominal fee (i think it works out as about £10 a game?) and his selection is pretty good. Seriously, until you've had a chance to swing around a few weapons, you're not going to know how LARP fighting works, and what style fits you best. The guys here are very experienced and it really is worth listening to them.
The new year will be good, I can guarantee it, and I will be updating the Skully forum with all the details as soon as they're available. Come one come all!

| I might add that the gent in question came to me and I provided all that information in a complete email, with design specs for the weapons and a reasonable price for the pair at £40, because i'm nice and I discount for paired weapons and "new larper." 16" weapons, that look like Sais (in the "one fore-quillion up, the other down" configuration) but would only be used as larp knives and not for stabbing or trapping as (has been mentioned) there really is only one system in Britain that allows such things as trapping a weapon and yes, if you did that with these they would snap the guards off at some point. And stabbing? Hell no. Least there has been some reasonable response to this question on Sais and Dagger fighting. Also good for someone obviously new to larping that sounds like they are frothy and want to come along. Let that continue, we need Fresh Meat! First, borrow a weapon. Second, learn the phrase "pull your blows" and know, really know what that actually means. Then do it. Then go and think about what you actually want as a weapon and realise it won't be cheap, because this isn't a cheap hobby. Then come see me and i'll be more than happy to make something that works for you, that You want and that can last hopefully the first few characters you play. And i'll do it cheap. As long as it's not some monster chaosspearofdoomspearofchaos, because I don't Do that, unless I have to

Here at Wandering soldier I have also consulted with my pet weapon "smith" (foam and rubber smith really) Sai are doable as said but be aware that the prongy side bits would be the most vulnerable place for damage if you get them.
I am obliged to make a competetive quote if you want one otherwise i'll be punished. And point out our very reasonable two year guarantee!

They would be unusual at least, good luck!
