| I dunno Ed, I'd probably play Ravenclaw, but that's just me being contrary. Daz - it's a reasonable start of an idea, but there's all sorts of factors that'd need to be considered before I'd know if it was something I'd like to be involved in. Off the top of my head: Copyright - odds are JK Rowling wouldn't release the copyright on the world for a larp, and in that case it couldn't be Harry Potter larp in that it couldn't use the characters, locations, plots etc. What are your thoughts on that? Age - the majority of larpers are university age or older, the majority of HP characters are school age. How would you deal with that? There are of course many answers, ranging from adults have to play teachers, to adults pretend to be kids, to moving the game away from the school setting, I'd just like to know what you'd be planning. Period & Setting - Even in the course of the 7 books the HP world (or at least Britain) changes quite a lot. Setting it in Britain during the books could cause problems because canon demands that the PCs can't deal with the biggest threat since Harry & co do that. So would you ignore the canon, or set it elsewhere, or another time, or what? Mechanics - would it be high or low lethality: people chucking killing curses left right and centre, or everyone sticking to stuns? Would weapons/brawling be allowed, or would spells be the only factor? Would it be one day events, or weekend? Would humans be the only race or could players be goblins, centaurs, house elves etc? In general a Harry Potter larp might be good, or it might suck like a randy hoover. It's difficult to tell without a little more guidance on what you're thinking of.

Marianne: It's worth mentioning that Daz has posted a few threads on the subject, he'd like to see a HP lrp aimed at kids, pretty much. I'd like to see that as well. Wouldn't touch it with a pair of extendable ears, but still. I gather he's a younger gamer with little experience in the hobby.
Marianne (8/9/2007) I dunno Ed, I'd probably play Ravenclaw, but that's just me being contrary.
I'm rather fond of Hufflepuff myself, I think the main problem is with 'vanilla' harry potter, you've essentially 3 sets of goodies and one set of baddies, whereas a small bit of tinkering makes the plot writers lives a lot easier.
For example: Ravenclaws studying the Dark Arts because all knowledge is valid or Hufflepuffs becoming masters of espoionage because they appear so harmless are both non-vanilla ideas that introduce conflict into the game. And if you set-up your setting well, a lot of the plot work is done for you.
As Matt P often says, no one sues in LRP. They are Star Wars, Serenity and Stargate LRPs, and in all cases they're 'non-profit', being seen by legal teams as nothing more than a 'fan convention'.
Another route is to use a twiddle on the world. Setting the game Post-Deathly Hallows works, as does setting at 'the other school'.

| it could be interesting, but I think too much of the world is known. A similar homebrew setting, based off hp and other magic school books would work better. If the larp was set up as a weekend fest type event, then my suggestion would be several schools sixth forms/older students could work well as a group. Plot would be a little interesting though. It could work... but would need a LOT of work. So why am I thinking about it? Probably because i'm at work, and would rather think about this than other things

| Hm, I would rather play a student from that other school from the Goblet of Fire (IIRC, only saw some of the movies - partially, at least). As for age differences, you could take the Ars Magica route in that only children can play wizards, and students and adults get to play 'companions', who may have a special gift or talent (like giants` blood), but aren`t taught magick. And for game mechanics, how about you set it up so that the young wizards have to attend classes (of the appropriate teacher - meaning he/she has to let them in) in order to 'charge up' on spells? Very educationally correct!
