We aimed to provide a system which was entirely family freindly and where adults and children could role play side by side and affect the plot equally.

We found our site at Thorrington Scout Camp in Essex - to us it was perfect giving us 27 acres to play in.

We took over one of the buildings for the event this was our IC tavern but also set up an IC area with a pavillion and some small tents where the camp fire was to be.

We had space for 38 and at one point had 30 booked but lost a lot in the week run up to it leaving us with 17 attendees (5 of which were children as the system was written with children in mind) including crew!!

We decided to go ahead anyway.

Friday night ws hard work as players found their feet and from our point of view it wasn't gelling, Saturday morning it all picked up a step and started running well and developing a life of its own. We very much wanted it to be a player led plot and it definatly happened and without knowing it they shaped the plot and the outcomes.

Saturday evening saw attacks on the tavern at full throw and we kept the players on their toes. A certain 13 year old was most impressed and had her weekend made for her when she managed to terrify two adult players in the forest so much so that they came legging into the tavern convinced there was actually something in the forest!

The event progressed pretty mch as foreseen with some additions to the plot on route purely down to the characters actions which we as the team enjoyed as much as they did.

Time out saw everyone celebrating after a battle to reclaim an egg and we finished on time.

We catered the event for everyone serving , beef casserole with potatoes and hunks of fresh bread as our time in opening meal , porridge, sausages, rolls and hot drinks/fruit juice for breakfast, thick vegetable soup with hunks of bread for lunch, roast chuck, potatoes and carrots and yorkshire puds for dinner and then a breakfast of omlette and sausages and a closing lunch of jacket potatoes and toppings. We also served Mead and Ale IC as well and was included in the price.

Would we do it all again? Well Saturday morning it felt like it was going wrong and I did question what on earth we were aiming at.But once id gone back to the plot book and realised we were actually on cue and moving forward I stopped panicking

Everyone has said they thouroughly enjoyed it, everyone is asking when the next one will be so that’s great.

We did end up sharing the site with some scouts - one lot were on one of the camping glades at the far end and we didn’t see them the others were in the building next to us but though we saw them there was no issues at all and we only saw them out of the building twice and neither time was where we were.

Catering was hard work but as I have catered larger events albeit not larp in the past that actually didn’t phase me to much and everyone liked the food.

Our rules worked well though we found a few areas which need tweaking a wee bit and we are onto that as well.

The children within the system worked well, enjoyed themselves and everyone said they had a great time role playing alongside the kids which was, after all, our aim - to create a system which children and adults could play in side by side.

Frankly I started the weekend a bag of nerves and ended it on a huge high as I hope everyone did.

Will we do it again? Definatly!
