| Over the winter my wife is going to be repairing/restoring the string mail from the Ascendancy crew kit... but we're not sure of the best sort of paint to use to get a decent looking and long lasting metallic finish. Any tips?

| Not sure I`ve got the same kind of string mail as you, since mine was made by a theatre-props company in Belgium, but I washed it in 'machine wash colour' from the druggist - which holds very well - and afterwards rolled it with metallic paint. Using the roller, you only paint the outer surface of the string. I`m afraid the mail would become quite inflexible if you used more paint. You could use a sustaining base colour, or go for the 'rusty' look. The colour scheme I used was copper on a base dark green, suggesting the mail was less than well-kept.

I'm told that a good look is achieved by rubbing lead (i.e. plumbium) on the string, to produce an actual metal sheen.
Matt Pennington (4/26/2007) But I do think LRP is a hobby best enjoyed in a positive state of mind.
If you approach a game with a positive attitude then you're more likely to enjoy yourself there.

| Ye-es... but given that lead is a neurotoxin and there are small children in the crew area most of the time I think I'll not be using that method. Thanks anyway. Although thinking about it that method would probably look awesome.
