I have been looking for a supplier of a suitable phys rep of light armour for my Maelstrom character and the most appropriate choice I can think of is a 17th century style buff coat.

For LARP purposes I neither want nor need it to be a full thickness reproduction- just to have the right sort of look, rather than being actual armour.

Of course, if you have a better suggestion for armour that will look good with bucket-top boots, breeches, rapier and cavalier hat, your ideas will be most welcome.

Alternatively you could look at re-enactors' fairs which have nice-looking buff coats -- most aren't that horribly thick or uncomfortable anyway, & if you want it to count as light armour at Maelstrom you probably don't want it TOO flimsy.

Another prospect is an army surplus WW2 / 1950s jacket -- sleeveless, leather padded with horsehair, quite sturdy, cost maybe £30 or so. Here's the kind of thing:
