I know for a fact that I'm certainly not the only XXXL LARPer out there. I've found that costume is pretty easy to get hold of, as so much of it is custom made. Leather isn't too bad for the same reason, but overall, armour is pretty hard to get for us *ahem* "Conan" types. *Coughcoughsplutteryeahrightcough*
Can anyone recommend any good armourers, or am I just going to have to lose a few stone and have sections of bone removed from my legs and ribcage to fit into anything?

Dave Woodward, the armourer for British Plate Armour Society, does superb, custom-made plate armour at a reasonable price, and has done work for big blokes (I would estimate that my friend John is around 6'2" and well over 20 stone, and he has a suit of Dave's armour).
Dave is a lovely chap, very enthusiastic & eager, and having forgotten more about armour than most armourers will ever know, but like many great armourers he can be slow to finish work because he's very busy. Expect a waiting time of at least a year.
You can contact him at dave (DOT) woodward (AT) britishplate (DOT) org (DOT) uk.
Alternatively start doing the www.crossfit.com Workout of the Day and you should be capable of fitting into more ordinary-sized armour within the year.

From the web site I thought The Warrior's Gateway made armour only in leather.
Do you do plate as well then, Mike?

Sadly my fledgling plate armouring career is on hold. (neighbours don't like the noise) However I have a few contacts that I could let you have.

A question- I am a bit larger around my gut than chest is there a ratio of chest/waist measurements I should be looking for when buying armour?
For example what belly size would a 44' chest chain vest fit?

Generally mail armour has a bit of stretch in it, but I'd be inclined to be guided by the chest size given. If you take the chest size as also being the maximum waist size, you're unlikely to go far wrong, as most mail hauberks won't have any tailoring -- they'll just be cylinders of mail. So if the max chest is 44", the max waist is probably the same.

| Being of a slightly fuller figure than most I knowwhat you mean! I had some banded leather custom made by the guys at LRPStore a few years ago, it wasn't too expensive. Definitely would recommend substituting fatest bit of gut for chest measurement when buying armour (speaking from personal experience!!)
