It seems like I’ve got a lot of reading to do, I hope I get some book tokens for Christmas! I’m still working on the Robin Hood idea and Lavlin’s post contains a lot of elements (though not all) of the flavour of the game. I first thought of doing a ‘Hood’ based game when I was pondering on the thoughts of what kind of game I’d like to play in. Once I’ve been actively attending LRP after a bit of a lapse to have kids and general apathy then I’ll know if the game is still doable. When I’ve got my thoughts together about exactly what the game will be I’ll discuss more here. At the moment I’m thinking about the style of play and how to communicate that to the players so they don’t all arrive with their own idea of how the game should run.

Flannel (12/20/2006)
Mark Wilkin (6/24/2006) I remember a system called Greenwood legends that did this sort of thing, from what I remember it made it easy to make groups of people who live in the greenwood. It was all low fantasy, had some magic but nothing like fireballs and the like, very Ars Magica in style, also if you wanted advanced medicine you either needed to be a Jew or Arab (with their own disavantages of being foreigners. One thing it did well was make it easy to create small groups with a good tight concept. You don't remember it. It never ran. However it appears to be being resurrected.... Mark and Flannel - The 'Greenwood Legends' game that you've mentioned, was this a LRP or TableTop or Freeform? Any more info?

| It was to be an LRP. It did have rules so I guess not a freeform but certainly not intended to be 'rules' heavy. Its currently being ressurected and I trust that details will be released to the general public when its ready... 'pparently its going to run this year though. 'Might be invite only... I'll ask.

[quote]Nath (6/23/2006) I heard some of the old Mirth LARP crowd also ran Robin of sherwood game, where they actually had the players playing the named characters. Yes there was a Robin of Sherwood game....a few years ago with some of the old mirth crowd...I was one I played Much and it was done really well....It was played as we were the actors and film crew..then we were playing out the script ie based on the tv prog.....it was fun at the time.... It was run by John and Liz Cable before they split up...and little time afterwards....

Greenwood Legends, my memory is quite fine thanks Flannel, I remember the system as I really wanted to play after reading it and I was quite gutted when it never ran. However I know there are rumblings of it being run again, no word on weather it'll be invite only or not, however the original system wasn't if that helps .

More generally, Robin Hood was one of the (two) main sources of inspiration for the 'age of the storm' published larp setting (the book Dragonbane used as general background for the wider world.

| Ah that’s interesting to know Nath. Just to clear up a bit of confusion concerning Robin Hood and this thread. I was originally considering running a Robin Hood based LRP as a small local small game for some mates, which I may still do. The Greenwood Legends game is/was a game some folks down south where/are intending to run. So they are separate games.
