I have to agree with Matt there, Vision Statements are wonderful things.

I said Vision Thing, not statement... You're right, it is important to communicate clearly to your players what your game is all about. But it's even more important to know yourself what you game is all about. To have a clear mental concept of what you're trying to achieve. Too many games seem to lack that in my experience.

History is an important source for LRP. Along with other works of fiction.

So not just the setting or the plot but something a bit more central than that?  Like some message you want to get across, or a key theme, or something like that?  Or less specific, like "trolls with miniguns" (my homage to Shadowrun)?

The advantage to a limited company is that your financial liability is limited to no more than a tenner. So, if an LRPer did sue, each of the company directors would only be liable to pay £10 each out of their own pocket....

Yep. As Anthony K said this is NOT true. However it goes further than that. If you're a limited company then you're only liable for £10 only in event of the company winding up with debts. For EVERYTHING ELSE you have full liability.

Where there is a seperate entity (i.e. a Ltd company) the company will probably be sued as well as the directors, so they'll clean the company accounts first then clean out the Directors personal accounts.

I see this lots (I specialise in Directors and Officers Indemnity insurance) its a really common fallacy

Theres no major benefit in becoming Ltd by Guarantee unless you're going to be trading on credit a lot. It also means that you're going to have to file your Rerort & Accounts to Companies House each year, so are making extra work (and cost if they need to be audited or independently examined)

Would suggest that most LRP groups are in a better posisiton not being Ltd

- Research what is not being done well
- Gain common agreement internally about the 'vision'
- Accept the ceiling of what you are all prepared to lose
- Book a site
- Write the brief to match the site
- Plan budget
- Advertise (here, website, WOM, etc.)
- hassle friends to come
- If you think you'll run, book your next site so you can advertise at the first event
- Plan event
- Re-plan event once numbers become clearer (often evening before)
- Ensure everyone OC has defined roles, and someone who will stand in for them
- Be kind to your players OC, be murderously fair IC.

The night was cold and the boy new what would come now, more fantastic tales of giants who made chairs out of mountains, of maidens so beautiful you'd eat the sun for but a glance from them, of warriors who's icy eyes cut into lesser mens hearts like fire. But his grandfather started his age old tales differently tonight. " Gather round , ill tell you a tale now of a Prince , the last prince of a fabled land far off. His land had been surpressed under the rule of a tyrant from a neighboring country for many years. This prince fought , and outwitted this tyrant many times . Tonight i will tell you a tale of Llywelyn ap Gruffydd The last prince of Wales.

I've just read this and it's put The Fear up me. Myself and a player group in Eos are hoping to run a player event and wondering what are the considerations which would apply to us? Will we really need to go through the limited company route considering this is an IC social event with plot refs in attendance?

I don't think many people actually do the company registration thing for one-off events - they just rely on being fairly sure that the people they're inviting and the site they're using are reasonable and not going to screw them over.

Not at all!

You'll need insurance (I'd recommend www.lrpinsurance.co.uk) but otherwise you need little else. We went for being a club/society, but that's solely to get a bank account. For a one-off player event, you might not want a bank account...
