We have had one or two people say that the page is coming up as unfound, I have passed the problem on to James, but the only thing I can suggest at the moment is clearing your cache and trying it again.

Not much detail to go on there, but that sounds like a DNS lookup problem.

I have the same problem, I can access Rule 7 at work but neither me nor Sean can see it at home on either of our PCs.

Do you see a message something like "forums.rule7.co.uk could not be found. Please check the name and try again."?

If so it's a problem with the arrangement by which your computer sends a query to other computers ("Where is forums.rule7.co.uk?") which should reply with an IP address (66.56.248.8) which your computer uses to connect to the rule7 server.

To work around this problem, you can tell your computer the address.
To do this, add this line:
66.56.248.8 forums.rule7.co.uk
to your computer's hosts file.
If you use Linux, MacOS X or anything else unix-like, it will be at /etc/hosts.
If you use some version of MS Windows, then according to http://practice.chatserve.com/hosts.html (first page google gave me that had the information) you'll find it at:
Windows 95/98/Me c:\windows\hosts
Windows NT/2000/XP Pro c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Windows XP Home c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

On Windows you'll probably need to reboot for the change to take effect.
On Linux there's no need to reboot but a couple of other files just might need changing. Quoting from that page again:
# Now make sure the hosts file is used for host name lookups. This is done in two files. First is:

/etc/host.conf

This file should have at least the line shown below:

order hosts,bind

That has host lookups use the hosts file before doing a DNS query with bind.

# The next file is:

/etc/nsswitch.conf

Recent tests indicate that this file is required in order ... to use the entry in /etc/hosts. The nsswitch.conf file should have this line for the hosts configuration:

hosts: files nisplus nis dns

There will probably already be a similar line in your version of this file. Just make sure "files" comes before whatever other methods are listed.
("DNS" mentioned above means Domain Name Service, the lookup service I described at the beginning. The problem here is that the DNS servers for forums.rule7.co.uk are unavailable or not up to date.)

If you do this, then if ever the Rule7 server moves you'll need to undo the configuration change to let your computer try querying the DNS server as normal rather than using the old 66.56.248.8 address.

==================

Addition:

I've discovered that "add a line to a file" is not enough detail for people. So, here's a way to do it if you're using MS Windows:

1. Click the Start menu button, and choose the "Programs" or "All Programs" option.

2. From within the "Accessories" section, click on "Notepad".
The Notepad program will start up: a window showing a blank document with a title like "Untitled - Notepad".

3. On that window, click on the File menu, then on "Open..."
A smallish window will pop up. Near the bottom there will be a one-line-high box labelled "File name:"

4. Click in that "File name:" box and delete anything that is in it already, then paste into it the full location of the file, i.e. one of these three:

c:\windows\hosts
(for MS Windows 95/98/Me)

c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
(for MS Windows NT/2000/XP Pro)

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
(for MS Windows XP Home)

5. Click on the "Open" button. If you got the file name wrong, you will see a message saying so and you can try again. Otherwise, the file-choosing window that popped up in step 3 will close, and the main Notepad window will show the contents of the hosts file.

6. To the bottom of that file, add this line:
66.56.248.8 forums.rule7.co.uk
and while you're at it you might as well add these as well:
66.56.248.8 www.rule7.co.uk
66.56.248.8 rule7.co.uk

Make sure there is a blank line after it/them.

7. Click on the File menu again, then choose "Save".

8. Shut down the Notepad program.

As mentioned above, you'll then need to restart the computer for the change to take effect.

Just to echo TheThomas' excellent comments (thank you, wanna job?), we moved servers about three months ago, I expect what's likely happened is that the old re-directs have finally started to be switched off by Lycos.

You also need to remember to change the "file type" in notepad to "all files"

I would add, Eoslrp.com is hosted on the same server so the same solution should work.

Are you behind a server with a firewall. I have gotten that problem when updating a website, I cant update the website from a desktop, but when I put the laptop on the same server it allows me to do so. Just thought they might be related problems.

This morning I couldn't connect, so I used a web-based DNS lookup service and found that the IP address has changed since I made that instructional post, and now it is 66.45.246.8.
There seem to have been some other problems besides that as well today though.
