| Not exclusively sci fi, no... Most of our sci fi kit is either custom made or bought from normal shops - especially army surplus and, oddly enough, some high street shops like Primark. Weapons like guns can be go online (the bbguns site is a good one for airsoft or cap firers) or bought from toyshops (mainly for energy weapons - the star wars blasters look good, for example). Traders will occasionally do something modern day or sci fi but the bulk of their kit will be aimed at the fantasy/historic market which is still by far the largest. The best thing to do is browse and see what is there or ask a trader to do you a custom job. Skian Mohr, for example, have modern day ball peen hammers on sale at the moment for the same price as a dagger and many traders will do modern bowie knives, chisels, chainsaws and so on. You can also make your own kit. Things like old mobile phones/PDAs, knackered computers/laptops, and other things can be painted and customised to look like a scanner. Blowing my own trumpet here but there is an article I posted about sci fi kit on LRP guide. You can find part one of it here: http://www.larpguide.co.uk/pages/larp_articleview.asp?ID=37 and follow links to parts 2 and 3 from there.

| Yeah, it's pretty much like Balor said. Certainly, most of the stuff we use in the 'Lazer-Tag' hobby is scratch made, high street available (most of our grey uniforms for the Starship Troopers event came from Primark as I recall) or put together from army surplus bits. If you can get to any of the big militaria fairs like Beltring, Detling, Malvern or Stonleigh there's always a lot of weird and wonderful cheap 'bits' you can convert. Betring's just gone, but there's a big fair at The Kent County Show Ground at Detling on the August Bank Holiday Weekend, which is worth a look if you can get there. There are a few prop companies selling ex-movie SF bits that might be usable. Motion Picture Props are still selling the SF Police & Army uniforms from 'Children Of Men', although Gunman Airsoft had the same stuff at Beltring at much better prices (www.gunmanairsoft.co.uk).
