A house mate once made a squib for a play by using two sheets of latex with blood sandwiched in between. A wire embedded in allowed him to open up the blood pack when he wanted.
If you are talking about exploding ones then they are specialised and don't get dished out to just anyone. Attaching explosives to yourself is something you want to avoid in my opinion.

| In the old days one would simply string a baking tray top your chest with a copy of vogue inside it and attach squibs and blood filled condoms over the top. They are however explosives and this really isn't recommended. Especially in an off stage environment. Even on stage with a trained Pyrop tech on hand I still got a plastic splinter form the casing in my hand. thougfh safely fired there is still potential for a mishap even in a controlled stage environment... let alone in an LRP one. However there now are 'safe' squibs usually compressed gas varieties... you'll need to back this up with a decent blank in the gun for the sound. heres how to make them at home http://www.exposure.co.uk/eejit/blood/index.html or you can buy nice ones from. http://cinovations.com/Squibs.htm

| You can also get good pyro stuff from here http://www.hfmgroup.com/ Contact them as I understand they run pretty good pyro training Best not to try using pyros on yourself or others without a better understanding Also you should talk to the organisers of the event you want to use them on as some LRP groups / Scout groups / Insurance companies don't like this sort of thing Good luck though 'cos pyro stuff looks cool

| Thanks guys - some good leads here, as always. As for contacting the organisers, that's us! Also, it's for a gunshot wound, so a pyro would be preferable, although I'm not sure that we know anyone who's experienced with this sort of thing. Thanks anyway!

| The Compressed Air ones work a treat... I did an entire project on them for my degree. Hiding the mechanism is the hard part for all squibs though. perhaps you could give us some context?

| Ive also found compressed air devices to be far more reliable than Pyros for actually exploding om queue. As noted already you'll need a licensed pyrop for explosive squibs. Unless you know one they aint that cheap. They are expensive bits of kit and you can expect to pay about a tenner a shot. Thats before any custom built detonator and the Pyrops services. Theres also probably no way he'll allow you to use them in any proximity to others (i.e players) because he'd lose his license. Therefore theres a trade off between explosives and how close you want observers to be.... anything close up you'll probably end up having to use compressed air...
