| I think that's actually too much choice to present to the player for races. The danger, I think, is with a lot of races the difference between them may not be pronounced or noticeable. Perhaps things would be simplified by grouping all the "animal" races together as one, and then make the differences between cat/dog/bird/lizard men akin to cultural changes for humans.

| After Trez keeps posting on here, thought I really should join in. Bearing in mind that the change to a Victorian setting is sort of my idea. Any way, being honest tis a work in progress. I like Zombies idea, may be worthwhile, so have an animal race, infact would be quite happy to free form it a bit. So, we say you want to play an animal race, & would like to be based on a (insert animal name), we could then tailor abilities to that animal. We are playing about with races at the moment, so those outlined are not set in stone. any way more to follow as we think about it/make it up
So how did I get myself into this then ?

| Yes Spacecat. As you're meant to be helping me run this, you should be here too. Think we've got to either steer completely clear of the standard HF races, or go with all of them. We'll have a think. I don't think 7 races is too unreasonable, but perhaps more variety would be good

I've seen a number of Larps with several races, and they all seem to work well enough, so long as there are -minimum- racial phys-reps.
I like the idea of having animal races, but perhaps it would be better to group them into genus rather than lumping all the animal races together?
I think the idea of having, essentially, infinite types of animal races means you will lose the sense of them being a "race" - Assini, Tellbrian and M'na Wib will all have certain cultural "feels" to them which you will lose if you lump them all together under one race.
Perhaps, keep to the three animal races you have described, but have them as three seperate cultural types, or caste types, of the one "kin"?
Perhaps they all live togather but perform certain functions? Assini soldiers or scribes, Tellbrian overlords, M'na W'ib working class?
I think it's also important that they are all (given that this is an alternate earth setting) from a different country or continent, and will help the roleplaying if they are distinctly "foreign", even if they are trying to ape the "civilised peoples" of Victoriana's good, green, England.
Perhaps the Assini / Tellbrian / M'na W'ic are the peoples of the Indian subcontinent? It would give a nice feel to the Empress of India attitude, and makes for instant roleplaying opportunities.
Happy to prod the "Snark" plot with people...
