Hey Pete, I have this game! If you're in York sometime, I'll definitely give you a game. I can pretty much always rustle up enough people for a 6 player game.
After having played millions of games now, we've got it down to pretty much 4 hours for a 6 player game. We do tend to play by Victory Points, though.

| I think the expansion - though definitely expensive - is worth it. With new Strategy cards, new planets, space mines, a wormhole planet, new racial and general technologies, new action and politics cards it addressed several of the minor things we stumbled upon while playing. Additionally, the new planets offer a different game with new fronts and though we did not try it yet, we look forward to test the 7 or 8 player variant. So yes, it was worth it IMHO.
