I am running a small club style system. Having run 3 small games I am wanting to run a larger fest style event next year. Obviously I`ll need insurance for this and the build up club games. Can anybody give me any advice on availablility, price and any experieance of getting and using larp insurance.

Cheers

There aint no 'obviously' about it. It's an extremely grey area. As shown by previous discussions.

Friends investigated and found that actually, personal insurance for individual players that is available to cover 'Extreme Sports' also covered LRP. They were looking as they also do medaeval sword training, and their trainer had recently run into problems with group insurance.

This cost them about £6.00 for a day, or £30 p/a for the basic package and a little more with the bells and whistles.

I'll try and dig out more details.

Yeah, insurance is basically a big ol' white elephant. Although in fairness I'm biased, as lies about my old group's insurance setup were the excuse given for the coup which pushed me out. Personally I'm of the opinion that a good disclaimer and general goodwill are much, much more important to a small (by which I mean <100) organiser.

Hi There,

I'm Chris and I administrate the lrp-alliance insurance policy, it's an umbrealla policy that some lrp organisers use to be insured.

If you want your players to be covered from each other, then personal injury insurance is the best way as previously mentioned. If on the other hand you want cover to hire a site then public liability insurance is what you want, this is also against members of the public wandering onto your site or game and being hit by a player or traumatised by them :-) You should be able to get cheap Public Liability for a one off event of about 100 people, from any good broker.

As long as you are a club then you don't actually need any insurance (unless the site owners/owners of the land insist on it).

Crew also fall into a strange area of volunteers/employees.

If you have any questions or want a chat pm here or email christully1@o2.co.uk

Hope your event goes well.
