| I still like the Norton stuff, infact my armour is better then alot of metal armour i've seen in look (practicalities of real warfare, no) As to more expensive, i find Norton just about as expensive, if not more in some ways. Real plate is fine, i wore it at the beginning of when i larped, with stringmail underneath, but i prefer the Norton stuff. The point of LARP is to look amazing, and to get into the part, Nortons stuff is good, and a damn good phys rep, so i see no problem and neither does our system with the stuff. Sometimes this works, sometimes this doesnt, i just guess it depends on the individual, i encourage good kit, and good phys reps, thats all, if people want to encourage me to wear real armour, i may as well carry on doing the real thing of battle re-enactment, at least then i can wear metal armour, and not get drum rolled, or wear the real thing which to be honest even in LARP most metal armour isnt re-enactment grade quality and wouldnt last long in my experiance of putting it through the test of full on live reenactment. So there's always the arguement even the metal armour in larp is a problem because some might be wearing the stuff which can stop a sword blow, and some which barely could, so it has to be unfair on the person who can stop a sword blow with it! All in all, the arguement goes on and on i guess, but whats the point of us using fake weapons if our armour can't be, i say both should be allowed, but both should be phys repped to a good standard.

| Im slowly coming to realise that I am one of the few people in the world who thinks that Norton Armour looks like plastic as soon as you get within ten feet. I also consider it massively expensive.... especially the fake leather stuff.... you could have real leather stuff for practically the same price. Ah Mr Sturrock.... you to come from the bad old days when men were men a shields were made of wood. Staffs were a realistic weight because they were in fact padded wood. I remember swords bending cos they were made of metal inside. We probably shouldn't talk about the use of Rabbit Blunts on Arrers either.

| I see what you are saying, but again, i can spot a latex weapon being fake, or a larp shield being fake from half a mile off, or the majority of costume being fake from a LONG LONG way away. Lots of leather armour even looks fake, not in the sense of it being 'not real' but its lack of ability to actually stop anything substantial to even be considered armour. LARP is indeed, a role play, and fake. Its the next step up from Table Top role play. Again, if people want real weapons, and real armour, and real leather which has a chance at protecting you, then Battle reenactment is the place for it, not LARP or LRP. Everyones opinion of LARP or LRP is different and that is something i love about it, and hate, but as long as it works as a good phys rep, limits the movement of that person and works well enough as one, shouldnt it be used? You are right, Nortons stuff is very expensive, but if people want to buy it i guess its there choice (or mine ) However, I dare to find anyone who's kit or LARP gear is to the same quality as mine, or just looks as great, ok that sounded very modest of me (not) but the point is, although my armour isnt real grade at LRP or LARP (however it is at live reenactment where i use other costume) I still find it very rare that i come across kit that is actually superior to mine costume wise, so shouldnt great phys reps and a damn good costume and lrp attempt be congratulated instead of shunned out? Maybe thats just my opinion! Meh! But if someone said to me, wear the real stuff and look pants, and have poor quality kit like alot of people have in UK LRP or LARP, or wear the LARP stuff and look like an amazing fantasy character, i think i know which i would take!

Your kit looks good (apart from the string mail) but you really must be going to some rubbish events if you find that most other people's kit looks worse, these days. :p Kit standards are really high at most decent events these days....

| Hahaha! Yeah the picture you see there of course is not the best picture, my costume has improved definatly since then, its just a good photo. Perhaps, although that said i've seen a few of the German LRPs and without a doubt, some of there stuff rocks mine. However i would say the quality of this kit is definatly enough to be used in a film quite easily. I've been to LT, and CP, Labby, as well as a few other systems and it appears to be better then majority, however, i have seen some fantastic costumes, which knock mine aside. I have not been tooo risky with my kit, going for a Norse kind of Knight, however there are those to dare that play massive orcs and trolls which smash mine aside, and look fantastic. The more abstract you go with your character idea, the greater the risk there is for your kit and costume to look pants, but greater the chance for your costume to look amazing.
Thats not an amazing photo but the costume has increased quite heavily. That said though, i really need to sort my humbleness out i am sounding like a complete egotistical bastard at the moment. Please feel free to insult me to put me back to normal levels! Anyone else have any decent kit or costume photo's of themselves?

Ah, right, I've not been to LT or CP for a long while, and not to Labyrinth ever, so I don't know if kit there is up to typical Maelstrom/Dumnonni/Vikings/Etc. standards.

| Dummoni's kit is pretty amazing i must admit, compared to there kit my greatest of costume is only above average / good i dare say. However if i ever went to Dummoni, i'd probably wear my Reenactment kit fused with larp stuff to be honest. I salute Dummoni as a perfect example of beautiful costume, if only more systems were like that.

More systems are like that, these days. I've not been to an event that had poor standards of costume in YEARS. It's just about picking & choosing which events you do. I only want to attend maybe 10-12 events a year these days, so it's easy for me to find 10-12 events that are of a high standard in general & have high kit standards in particular.
