When this thread started (seems like years ago) I commented that traders and event organisors should not have to take a cut in income just because someone on low income can't afford their product, so while I fully support entry points to the hobby for students and others on low income, I feel it is only fair to point out that most (full time)traders are also on a low income- profit margins are very tight and giving discount means not earning enough- I've never seen a new trader discount at an event, or someone offering to pay more for something. I've never seen anyone put their hand in their pocket and pay an extra tenner at the end of an event, because they thought it was amazing value for money.
I have seen (and experienced) people trying to haggle prices down because they won't have enough beer money if they pay asking price, and I've had people assume that I'll have a sale on the last day of the Gathering ('cos if I haven't sold it by then it's no use to me), I've had people pester me to run events then not pre book and I've used my mortgage payment to underwrite it then prayed that they turn up as promised, only to be let down.
So don't try to tell me that any one should get discount just because they aren't earning enough- as I've pointed out there are many ways to go to events at reduced cost without cost to the rest of us (especially those who actually take the risks and put their money in to the hobby) who where happy enough to work events when we couldn't afford to play- in fact some of us still do even though we can afford to play.
