Tart (10/3/2006)
Moving away from religion, you wouldn't expect an organising to change the event so you could pop off down the pub for a few hours to watch the football, would you? Or supply a big screen TV so you could watch it at the event?
Quite, You'd be shocked at the number of times I've heard people discussing that as a serious suggestion.

Man in Blue (10/1/2006) Sorry to be contravertial, but it's true. If there is an event with large, genuine OOC significance then it will (and I would argue should) almost always win over a LRP event. End of story, tbh.
Personal circumstances (LRP is my real life) aside, I think there is an important counter argument to this. Life is for living, and LRP is one of the many pleasures that makes living life a rich and enjoyable experience. "Real" things, like a job, a car, real world commitments etc, exist to provide me with the wherewithal to go to LRP events and enjoy myself. It's easy to say "It's just a game, the real world always comes first", in the same way that it's easy to say "safety always comes first", but the truth is more complex. It's about balancing what is important - enjoying yourself is important. Going to mass is important for some people.
History is an important source for LRP. Along with other works of fiction.

. It's about balancing what is important - enjoying yourself is important. Going to mass is important for some people. Exactly. Some people have a different view of whats important than others. We're all grown ups and should be allowed to prioritise what we do.

| Absolutely. Just don't expect the event, or everyone at it, to revolve around your individual priorities. Or if you do expect that........organise the event yourself And LOL dog-owners seem far easier to wind up than I thought. Maybe having cats has given me added powers in this area More seriously, what is annoying is when people let you down due to spurious 'real life commitments' when they had already made a commitment of some form to an event, often in an important area of the organising or running of it. Trust me, those 'real life' commitments can become a 'real life' pain in the arse for an organiser at that point. And Football is just a game, remember; don't see many fans being impressed if a key player fails to turn up for a match for some weak excuse of 'but this is real life' !!!!!!!
The older I grow, the less tolerant of idiots I become.
