Does anyone have any hints and tips for making large quantities of fake blood that is safe to ingest and doesn't stain too much? I used a mixture of golden syrup, water and food colouring for 'Hyborian Tales' last weekend, and people complained it was too sticky.

But then you wouldn't be able to eat it, or put it anywhere near the mouth or eyes...
Might have to make seperate batches in future...

There are a multitude recipes available, these two websites give a range of options:
http://www.shades-of-night.com/painneck/blood.html
http://www.halloween-website.com/fake_blood.htm
Which to recipe to use would depend on what you want to use them for, I would recommend three different consistencies:
Bulk, thin fluid - for mass used
'Accurate' blood - fresh thickness for close up uses and on heroes
Thick blood - for times when you need your blood extra slimey and umpleasent
The majority of these recipes are safe as they are food product based. If you are being totally 'open' to all players then you may need to look for the vegetarian alternatives to gelatine and red food colouring.
