Interesting article so far i will read the rest with interest. One way of getting round some of the problems has been tackled by a LARP game called NEXUS which uses airsoft for ranged combat resolution combined with traditional LARP melee weapons and is based on a vision of a near future post apocalypse setting which will be familiar to fans of the genre.

Check out the forums and pictures for an idea on how sci fi can actually work in LARP and is very roleplay conductive as well as realistic. The game uses a freeform and open ended style similar to PDs Maelstrom (which i play) but presents it with a near future gritty realism.

As one of the event organisers i am very interested in the article so far and any comments or questions are welcome. We have been running games for some time now and our player base is growing and i think with modern technoloy the bridge between science fiction and science fact is shrinking and given some thought can be presented well as a LARP system. Check out the game and see for yourself that guns and roleplay do in fact mix very well indeed.

Feel free to drop me a line at grand_justicar@yahoo.co.uk if you have questions or comments or contact the game team via our forums at the above website.
